Blue writing (except links) is Year 1 work/extension

Literacy

(Approx. 30 mins – 12 min teaching video, 20 mins activity)

Activity:

  • Today you are going to make your own instrument! Complete the planning sheet (in resources section) to plan your instrument. What will you need? What colour are you going to make it?
  • Add labels to explain your drawing.
  • Make your own instruments using junk modelling, following your plan (everything that would normally go in your recycling bin will work perfectly or maybe you could use rice or pasta in a tube or bottle or even elastic bands over a pot). (15-20mins)
  • Sing your favourite songs whilst playing your instruments, resume the video and play along with the song about the story of the dancing bat.
  • Step out and retell the story with Mr Guillian or with your grown ups (5 mins).
  • Review your instrument – did it work well? How would you improve it next time?

Resources:

  • Junk modelling e.g. recycling – boxes, plastics, tubes, bottles, elastic bands
  • Tape or glue
  • Device to watch video
