Year 6 Sportshall Athletics
Year 6 travelled to Thurston Community College to take part in the U11's Sportshall Athletics competition.
They took part in both track and field events and the whole morning was a real team effort.
We came 1st in both the girls and boys 2 x1 sprint relay and 2nd in many other track events. I was also told by the organiser of the competition that he was blown away with the skills he saw from Barnham in the field events.
All the pupils put in 100% effort and determination and their sportsmanship was outstanding.
Overall we can an amazing 2nd place! That's a silver medal!
All the pupils should be so proud of what they achieved
Well done!
Mrs Shepperson
Our new Sports Leaders are on the go! We have 6 sparkling, brand new Year 5 Sports Leaders. Their role is to promote keeping fit and active in school. They have already been working hard, preparing fun and engaging activities for Hedgehogs and Moles to take part in at lunchtimes. These activities will be running every lunchtime for Hedgehogs and Moles to join in with. These will involve parachute games, target games and some super fun obstacle courses, plus many many more!
They are super excited to encourage the rest of the school to get active and have fun! They will be involve in some future events coming up as well, so watch this space!

The first thing I want to say to all of the pupils who took part in the Gymnastic competitions over the last couple of weeks is....WELL DONE!
All pupils put in 100% effort and determination and really did do themselves proud. Competition was tough and the standard was high!
Year 5/6 were fantastic team players and supported and spurred each other on. They were extremely patient as their competition was long and there was a lot of waiting around. The skill they showed was excellent and overall they came 5th in the competition and they should be so so proud of themselves, as I am!
Year 1/2 showed great teamwork in their group routine and even proved they had the patience of a saint when it took me FOREVER to try and get the CD to work! Turns out I never managed to fix it, so they show great resilience when performing their routine to the whispery sound of my ipad playing the song! I had lovely comments from other teachers say how well behaved and mature they had been. Overall they came a brilliant 5th out of 12 schools and I am extremely proud of them!
Year 3/4 had to enter the hall late after mini bus issues! But this did not phase them at all! They went straight into their vault and really showed the judges what they could do! During their routines they showed strength, flexibly and confidence throughout. Even though they told me how nervous they were they did not let this show at all when performing.
It got to the results stage of the competition and the tension in the room was high! They called out 3rd and 2nd places leaving just 1st left to announce. By this point Mrs Shepperson was shaking with nerves and the pupils were are cool as a cucumber!
The gentleman in charge called out "And in 1st place is.....drum roll please..................... BARNHAM!!!!
the children leap out of their seats and found there rightful place on the 1st podium.
This mean that the Year 3/4 team are going through to the County final in July. More information to follow.
I would like to say a big thank you to Alice Coding, who supported and trained the children up to the high standard need to enter the competition.
And one more HUGE well done to all the pupils that took part. You were all excellent and you have made me one very proud teacher!
Mrs Shepperson
Well it has certainly been a very snowy and chilly week!
We have made the most of this unique weather and the experiences that it can offer, and have packed in some snowy fun in just three days!
Some of our highlights have been:
Snowy stories around the fire in the cabin
Snowball challenges, it's not often you can snowball your teachers!
Soup and warm bread at playtime
Watching the teachers turn into big children
Spotting wildlife tracks in the snow
Making vegetable soup in the cabin, ready for returning from a wintry walk
Sledge rides!!
We hope it snows again next year, but not so much that we have to close school again!
Otters were victorious in the first round of the Aviva Sportshall Primary athletics competition today hosted by Thurston CC. Otters came out on top over 24 track and field events, finishing first or second in all but one of the track races, and heading straight in to the next round (date and location to be confirmed). Not only was I blown away by the performance of the class, I was also incredibly proud of their attitude and team-work: they are each and all a credit to themselves, their families and our school. Mrs Nicholas and I were beaming from ear to ear throughout the event. Very, very well done!
One very proud year 6 teacher.
Today, seven children were chosen to take a trip to Elveden to select a Christmas Tree for school. The children took their time to select the best looking tree from the estate! They put the tree through the netting machine and carried it all the way back to the car. After all of this exhausting work, we all had a quick rest with a warm cup of hot chocolate and a game of Eye-Spy. A perfect end to a Wednesday afternoon.
Our Come Dine with Me topic culminated in a scrumptious street market, where parents and children could sample some of each classes culinary delights!
From freshly cooked croque madams to scotch pancakes cooked over the fire in the cabin, there was something to tickle everyone's taste buds!
Even Mr Holman's nettle soup went down well, with some!
