Literacy

(Approx.30 mins – 10 mins teaching video, 20 mins activity)

Activity:

  • Join in with the song, see if you can do the actions too – ‘There’s a worm at the bottom of my garden’. (5mins)
  • Can you find something at home to make a crunching sound for the story?
  • What does mime mean? No speaking – just using actions!
  • Pause the video and mime the story using your story map from last week! If it is too tricky to do the whole story, mime your favourite part instead!
  • If you don’t fancy miming it yourself, maybe you could make your teddies re-tell the story, or even make your own puppets and retell the story this way.

Resources:

  • Device to watch video
  • Your story map from last week

Maths (Reception)

(Approx. 30 mins)

  • Watch this video: ‘Session 1’ (Light and dark – week 2) (5mins)

Activity:

  • Pause and answer the questions as the video plays.
  • Talk about what you notice.
  • Miss Cooper uses 5 double sided counters – instead you could cut out 5 circles and colour one side red and the other side blue. Talk about the shape you are drawing. Allow children to cut them out to improve their cutting skills.
  • Put into jar/cup/bowl, shake and land – place on 5 frame and talk about what you can see.

Resources:

  • Double sided counters or Draw and cut out circles – colour each side in different colour.

  • The sheet is called ‘Phonics: oo short sound’.
  • If you do not have access to a print, please don’t worry – children can write it out on a piece of paper, the sheet isn’t necessary but may just be handy as a reference J
  • Don't forget to practise your phonics on spelling shed too! Let me know if you cant find your login and I will send it over :) https://www.spellingshed.com/en-gb/
