Last Friday, Year 5 visited the farm to use, apply and consolidate their learning about forces. Their first challenge was to try to move a 500kg log! We were very impressed with the collaborative teamwork and problem solving, as Squirrels noticed the resources around them and made levers and fulcrums to successfully move the log, by either lifting or rolling. Challenge number 2 was to investigate the use of pulleys and belts, cogs and chains and gears, focusing in the combine harvester. This even challenged our learning further into discovering ratios! The final challenge was to identify the use of friction, cogs, chains and gears by carefully observing the seed drill as it slowly went past. The large-scale machinery brought learning to life and was perfect for using and applying vocabulary in context!
