Blue writing (except links) is Year 1 work/extension

 

Literacy:

Literacy (approx.)

Activity:

  • Use your story map from yesterday (or the copy of the story map in resources section ‘Gingerbread man story map’) to retell the story with Miss Doherty.
  • Step the story by watching and pausing the video to repeat.
  • Say the word ‘run’, use your parrot or robot arms to segment the sounds in ‘run’ – r-u-n.
  • Miss Doherty still needs to practise her pencil grip – make sure you don’t copy her!
  • Draw a picture of part of the story and write the word to describe it e.g. A drawing of the gingerbread man running and the word ‘run’.
  • Draw a picture and write a sentence to describe it e.g. The gingerbread man hopped onto the fox’s nose.
  • Use your phonics to sound out the words – In school, we would expect the words to be spelt phonetically e.g. nose : n-oa-s’ / gingerbread – j-i-n-j-er-b-r-e-d.
  • Create a word bank with words that your child may need help with first, before writing.
  • On the template, there are some words already written for you in the word bank.

Maths (Reception)

(Approx. 30 mins)

  • Watch this video: ‘Session 3’ (Light and dark – week 3) (5mins)

Activity:

  • How many dots are there? Answer as quickly as you can again! I wonder if you can be speedier than yesterday?
  • Make your own shape picture or:
  • Cut and stick together your own 2D shape animal (in resources folder) or:
  • Count and colour 2D shapes (in resources folder) or:
  • Colour 2D shape pictures (in resources folder).

  • Device to watch video.
  • One of the sheets above (not at all necessary)

 

Maths (Year One)

(Approx. 30 mins)

  • Remind the children of when we looked at the crocodiles < / > / =
  • What does the crocodile like to do? He always likes to eat the biggest number. We use these symbols to say more than/less than or greater than/less than or = : equal to or the same as.
  • Watch this video: ‘Comparing addition and subtraction statements’ (bottom left video) (10mins)

Phonics

(Approx.  20mins)

  • Watch Miss Sutton’s video: ‘or’
  • Pause it at the relevant points for your child to answer any questions, practise letter formation or to fill in each part of the sheet.
  • The sheet is called ‘Phonics: ‘or’.
  • If you do not have access to a printer, please don’t worry – children can write it out on a piece of paper, the sheet isn’t necessary but may just be handy as a reference J
